This
little tip is in regard to the action of the "Lower"
voices.
For the most part, I just don't like "Lower"
in the styles. As far as I am concerned those sounds
just don't allow the music to "breathe". I
like air around the notes and consider the air as important
as the notes themselves. So I like to turn off the "Lower"
voices.
On the X1, X4 and SD1 it is fairly simple.
There are two volume buttons for each major part group
on the extreme left side of your keyboard or module.
These buttons help you balance the various parts to
each other depending on your taste.
One of those button pairs is for the "Lower"
voices on the SD1 and on the X1 you can control each
of the two "Lower" voices independently.
Pressing both buttons at the same time brings the value
to "0" which means that no sound is heard.
The System is much better on the Vega and XD9/3. If
you press F4 "Arranger Mode" when you are
in the Split Screen you will get selections that allow
you to control the way the arranger reacts to Styles.
Press F4 again for "Low. Mute" and the lower
stops. The great advantage here is that you can then
press "Save/Enter" and then F3 "Power
On Setup" and then F10 to save. Then when you turn
on your XD or Vega unit the setting will still be there.
The Power On Setup trick does not seem to work on the
SD1 or the X series of instruments.
For those of you who like and use the "Lower"
voices remember you can change the voice and volume
on the style itself if you press F5 "Arrange View"
and then F4 for Lower1 and F5 for Lower2.
After pressing F4 or F5 you can then change the instrument
by choosing a different instrument from your regular
set of instruments just like you choose an instrument
for your right hand. You can also change the volume
of the instrument by using the "Value +/-"
keys. After you have gotten the sound you want for lower
remember to save your style changes using "Save/Enter"
and then F2 "Styles".
At this point the different Ketron instruments have
different ways of handling the Style. Read your manual
to see what to do for your instrument. I always like
to save the style variation to the hard drive--just
in case. For those of you who don't have a hard drive,
save to floppy.
