To use this utility
you must have the cable.
The cable is about 6' long and connects to the little round
port on your keyboard or module in the back that is labeled
"Computer". That makes it simple. The other end
connects to your computer serial port. If you don't know which
one is your serial port, it is the only one that this plug
will fit. That keeps it simple.
Then you must download
the software from: Ketron's Home
Site (http://www.ketron.it)
After choosing your language, click on SOFTWARE in the menu
on the left.
In the new page click on KetronFT.
Then copy these instructions:

ONCE YOU'VE GOT
IT INSTALLED
Set your keyboard
to transmit and receive the information. Go to F6 MIDI and
then F10 Utility an then F6 computer. Make sure it says PC
or MAC if you are using a Mac computer. (If you use a Mac
you are on your own; I don't own one to test with.)
Let's look at the
interface.
In the top Menu you have "Port", "Utility",
"Extension" and "About".
Make sure the correct port is checked and the rest is pretty
much the default. The port will usually be Com 1 or Com 2.
I also set my baud rate as high as it will go.
Now notice that
the top pair of windows is information regarding your keyboard.
The one on the left is for folders and the one on the right
is for files.
Then moving down you have 3 buttons. They are "Upload",
"Download" and "Connect/Disconnect".
Connect/Disconnect
is only one button. If your keyboard and computer are not
in the Active mode, you will see Connect. When in the active
mode, the button changes to Disconnect.
The lower set of
windows shows your computer files and folders.
The small window just under the word "COMPUTER"
show all your drive choices if you use the drop-down arrow.
The window just under that show the folders that are on the
selected drive.
The large window in the lower right shows the files on the
selected folder in the left window. Note* You must double
click on the folder name for the files to show.
UpLoad and DownLoad.
When you are UpLoading you are copying files from your computer
to your Ketron Unit.
When you are DownLoading you are copying files from your Ketron
to your computer.
After you hit the
"Connect" button your Ketron will show "CONNECT
TO PC" in the window. This means you are ready for file
transfer.
Now let's move
some files to the Ketron from your computer.
First let's create a new directory or folder.
Notice that the MkDir button on the top right is active. If
you press on that, you will get a little window that is titled
New Folder and a window where you can write the name. For
practice put "Test" in that window and press OK.
The folder "TEST" should show in the top left window.
If you don't see it, scroll up or down until you do. Then
click on that folder so that it is highlighted.
There are now four buttons active for the Keyboard windows.
MkDir (Make Directory)
DelDir (Delete Directory)
RenDir (Rename Directory)
Refresh (Scans the directory again)
Now in the lower
set of windows go to the drive that contains the files you
wish to upload to your Ketron.
Select the folder that contains the files and double click
that folder.
The files will show on the right.
Note* Pattern files will show .PAT extensions, Standard Midi
Files will show .MID extensions.
Find a few files in that folder that you would like to upload
to your Ketron. Highlight one and then move to the next one
and hold down the "CTRL" key on your computer and
click on it. Now you have two files highlighted. You can keep
selecting files in this manner. If you want to highlight all
at once, click on the top file, highlighting it and then scroll
down to the bottom and while holding "SHIFT" on
your computer, click the bottom file. All files should highlight.
Now click the "UpLoad" button and wait while the
files load themselves into your "TEST" directory.
If you wish to
copy files from your Ketron to your computer it is very simple.
In the "Computer" window highlight the folder you
wish to copy the files to. If you don't have a folder you
can create one using the MkDir button to the right of the
computer section. With that folder highlighted in the computer
section, go back to the Keyboard section and find the folder
that contains the files you want to copy to your computer.
Then as you did before highlight the files you wish to copy
and click the Download button. Wait until the copying is complete
and then either copy more files or click the "Disconnect"
button. The screen on your Ketron will return to normal and
you are done.
The buttons "Copy",
"Move", "Rename" and "Delete"
are pretty self explanatory.
Copy is used to Copy files from one folder to another in the
Keyboard section or in the Computer section.
Move is like Copy except the file will be moved from one folder
to another while Copy leaves you with two files.
Rename renames either the file or folder you have highlighted.
Delete removes the file or folder you have highlighted.
Be careful using these last two.
You can actually
upload or download any type of file that is recognized. So
for our purposes you can load new styles, patterns, Midi files,
sounds, text and much more.
