Q. I am getting an error message "DO7 not avail F4
to continue" on my MS40.
A. Unfortunately that refers to the main board. The cause
could be a loose chip or dirty pin connections or a
bad chip. Other causes can be a cracked circuit board
or a poor solder connection. If you know how to work
on circuit boards you can open the MS40, pull the chips one at a time, clean the pins and pin socket,
and reinstall the chip making sure the pins all make
good contact. If you are not completely comfortable
with this procedure, take your unit to an authorized
Ketron/Solton dealer or send it back to the U.S. headquarters
in New York.
Auto Repeat
Q. Sometimes
when playing, pressing a chord button, and adjusting
"right" volume at the same time. The right
volume adjustment no longer steps up/down multiple increments
when holding volume button. I have to press the button
once to change "right" volume by 1 increment.
To change 5 increments I must press and release volume
button 5 times. To put this to normal I must turn unit
off then on. This is not good while performing.
A. This function which I think of as scrolling
the volume setting is actually called auto-repeat. About
the auto-repeat , this can happen if the style is too
fast or full of events , in that case the processor
does have the time to manage this function that is at
lowest priority .
Triggering wrong chords
Q. I have problem with KETRON X4 SOLTON as follows: When you use automatic accompaniment and give for example G it gives G11, so it gives the wrong chord. Some chords are right. We already reset the machine, and it didn´t help. Do you have some solution for this problem?
A. There are several possible solutions to your problem, but I think the most likely one has to do with whatever you are using to trigger the X4. For example if you are using the 13 note MIDI pedal board, there is a good chance that the pedal board is also triggering a note that should not be playing. I suggest you try triggering the X4 with a different device such as a keyboard or trying a different keyboard if you are already using one. If the problem changes or goes away, then the problem is not the X4.
If the problem persists then you may need to do the following: <
First open the keyboard/module carefully. Be careful to save screws in a manner that will allow you to replace them in the exact same spot.
Then after opening the unit carefully, check all the connections. It is best to clean and firmly reattach each connection.
Then "massage" all the chips that are not hard wired in place. Do this by firmly placing your finger in the center of each chip and rotating your finger as though easing a sore muscle. Be careful to not do this hard enough to break anything.
This will cure 90% of all Ketron problems.
One more caution and THIS IS IMPORTANT. Be sure you are properly grounded before opening the unit and at all times during the operation. Static electricity can destroy your chips.
If you are not comfortable doing this, get a professional to do it. Most qualified computer repair people can do it.
