POWER TRACKS PRO AUDIO 9
The new Power Track Pro Audio 9 is here and in stock. I have been experimenting with it and it is really improved over any previous version.

The audio effects are really great and it will do Direct X plugins so you never have to suffer for great audio effects. It still has the 32 bit engine that came out in version 8. there is a new interface that you can use and there is still the classic version if you prefer. I am starting to get used to the new look and like it.

The only thing I have missed in other previous versions is the ability to place System Exclusive (SysEx) information where you wanted in a MIDI track and have PT Pro save it in its location. That has been corrected in this version and I am one happy camper. I plan a series of articles on this feature. Using SysEx is like going from a Piper Cub to a Lear Jet. You will need to do some studying, but the power you gain is incredible.
One example is to change your track mode from instrument to drum. I normally use Channel 14 for this for no good reason. But here is what you can do. Have your normal channel 10 for your regular drums and then set 14 for drums of a different type. Lets say that on beat 4 you would like an electronic snare instead of the regular one on the regular drum set. You really can do this with SysEx and the new Power Tracks Pro Audio 9 is perfectly equipped to handle it.

News about the Midjay
Last month I wrote the following:
There is only speculation that it will be available at the end of this month. From the side pictures courtesy of Bob Hughes, it is apparent that it will have a place for the FS13 and/or the Vol/Tonality pedal. This is really good news. That means the it will be a decent replacement for those who wish to carry a lot less and do a lot more. I hope in issues to come there can be much news about the Midjay.

As is typical, I have not received mine yet, in fact I have not heard that they have been shipped.

TIP

Let's modify a pattern.

I cannot tell you how many time I have had the question asked.
How do you change a Pattern? Also how do you change a style?

Same thing folks.
The easiest things you can change are the instrument assignments, volumes, reverb, effects and panning. This is all done on the F5 key when you are using the split screen.

To get to the split screen press Exit until it shows up. Usually one or two presses will accomplish this.
Be sure the pattern you want to modify is showing in the window.
After pressing F5 you will see instrument and volumes for each trace. A trace is a section of a style assigned to one instrument. For instance Bass or Chord 1.
Now if you press the Function key near that trace, it will highlight for a few seconds. While it is highlighted you can make changes.
The technique is slightly different for different models of Ketron products for changing instruments, but you select instruments just like you would for your right hand. Lets say that you want to change from Finger Bass to Acoustic or Jazz Bass. Press the correct F key and then go to the Voice section where the Basses are. Select the Bass you want and if the Function area is still highlighted you can change the volume using the Value-/+ keys. If it is not still lit press the Function key again.
Note* On the XD series your screen will change for the instrument selection and after you have selected you can get back to the previous screen quickly by pressing Exit. Or you can wait several seconds and it will change for you.
Now press Page -/+ (Same keys as Hard/Floppy) and you will go to the Reverb send page. Here you can set the amount of reverb for each trace.
Page 3 gives you the ability to set effects per trace. The most useful is also the default which is Chorus. Many times a plain sounding Rhodes Electric Piano can really come alive in you pattern by adding a bunch of Chorus. You may need to readjust the volume again after doing that.
Page 4 sets the Pan left and right for each Trace. Again use the Value -/+ keys to move to the left or right. If you perform in Mono don't pan because that will definitely affect the volume.

Now if you have gotten each instrument to your liking hit Save/Enter and choose Styles. Then you have a chance to rename the pattern. After renaming press F10 to save it.

Now a word of warning. At this point you must save again to the disk because you have just saved it to your Flash Ram. To save to Disk press the Disk button.
Be sure the Pattern you want to save is highlighted.
Then press Save and then press Pattern and again you are given a chance to rename going to disk. The dialog on the screen will tell you where on what disk the pattern will be saved.

You can do all of the editing and some of the saving while the pattern is playing. This helps to know what the changes are sounding like in real time.
Other changes you can make before saving are, exiting the F5 section change the tempo, change the reverb type in the F2 section, change the drum balance in the Drum mixer section etc. All these things will be saved with your saving.

You can change so many things that you can make five or ten or twenty different sound styles from only one style.

Have fun and let me know what you come up with.
