TIP
I had crazy request from one of my customers.
"I want to use the SD1 for a trio sound. I love the drums, but I prefer to play my own bass lines and right hand without the other instruments going. I typically use piano or vibes and once in a while, organ or sax. How can I do this without having to mute all the instruments except bass."
There are probably a dozen ways to do this, but the simplest one is to set up a registration (single) that creates your volumes as you like them. Turn on the bass and drums and everything else off. Set the bass section to "Manual" (third button from the left on the bottom row). Save the registration as something you can remember like Man Bass.
Press the Single registration button next to the Master Folder button and save and name it. Remember the name and number you assign to it.
Now in this setting your bass instrument will be the one defined by the style. You can change styles and the settings will stay, but the bass instrument will stay.
Another way to do the same thing and set the type of bass you want is to create a Program in your sounds that splits the keyboard like at B2 and put the bass you want on the left and the instrument you want on the right.
Find a Program you don't like (there are usually some you don't care for) and go to Edit Program.
F1 and F6 move the cursor on the voices. Put the bass you want in the first slot and the instrument you want in the second slot. Let's say vibes for this demonstration.
Put the cursor on the spot and select your instrument by either pressing the buttons for that instrument or using the value keys to change the instrument. If the instruments is too high or too low to work in the range you find most useful you can use the Shift F3 and F8 to move to the correct instrument and the value keys to raise or lower the instrument a full octave. +12 is an octave higher and -12 and octave lower.
Then press the Page -/+ to go to page 3 where you find the Range.
Here is where you set the actual keys to respond to which instrument.
For this little program set the Bass from E0 to B2 by moving the cursor onto the appropriate area using F2 and F7. Then use the value keys to change the note number.
Set the second instrument range from C3 to C7.
Save the program and name it so you can find it. Like Vibe&Bass.
Now set a registration that turns off everything except drums and turn on the Pianist. Using this setting you can play any pattern of drums and have the Program setting for bass and vibes.
A nice combination is Acoustic Bass and Damp Vibes.
Use these Programs for your most often used combinations and then you can use the first method for your rare ones.
I hope this helps those that wish to use the Ketron instruments in this valid way. If you play good left hand bass and like the trio sound this is a great thing.
Let me know if this helps you.
