Hello to all the wonderful Ketron users and welcome
to issue number 26 of Ketron News and Tips (KNAT).
This issue is targeted for July 15, 2003. I hope that everyone
in the U.S. has a great July 4th weekend.
If you have a question to ask or a tip to submit, please
let me know at jay@ketronus.com. Also I love your comments
so don't hesitate to let me have a response.
New BAND-IN-A-BOX dealer
This is the first 2 weeks that Ketron U.S. has been a dealer
and the response has been 100% positive. BIAB works so well
with Ketron. My web site is devoted to Ketron and all the
highest quality things I can find that work with Ketron products
and this is definitely one of those.
The other software that is also from PG Music (the BIAB people)
and works perfectly with Ketron products is Power Tracks Pro.
This is a sequencing program and as such is perfect for tweaking
your MIDI files. Even more BIAB is the perfect companion to
Style Works 2000.
So much so that I am offering a software special.
I have several older, yet brand new and fully functional,
BIAB versions that I will give FREE, while supplies last,
to anyone purchasing any version of Style Works. Once supplies
run out I will make a different offer. I do not believe that
one can have too many styles.
If you order Style Works Universal, you will receive your
choice of the latest BIAB or 50% off of the BIAB MegaPAK.
Within the next couple of days this will appear on my Accessories
page in my web site.
I will also be offering BIAB at a better discount on the "Secret"
page, described above.
All supplies are in stock at the moment.
For my loyal customers who have already purchased Style Works,
if you contact me by email regarding the offer I have a special
for you as well.
Tip: How about chaining songs?
Here is a function that many people do not seem to know about.
It can prove highly useful and even more so if you have a
hard drive. When would you use it?
If you are performing live and you have some very strong MIDI
files that are appropriate to the job at hand, you can set
these up to play during a break. Doing this gives you some
control over what happens during your break.
I have heard musicians comment that this is nothing but Karaoke
and then play CDs during a break, which, to my mind, is nothing
but being a DJ. The one function that does not seem to exist
during the chaining of songs that I would like is a setting
for pause length between songs. This would make the program
really useful for live performance since you can use the pause
button on chains just as you can on a regular song or when
you are in the arrangement mode.
To chain a song you need to enter the "Disk" mode.
I would have expected this to be in the "Song Play"
area, but it is not. Chaining songs has been possible since
the MS days and the procedure has not changed a lot.
Press "Disk"
Press "Utility"
(On the SD1 this is a little trickier. If Master Folder is
on either take it off to go to a folder with MIDI files or
go to Folder 91. Then you can press Utility.)
To see any chains that have already been created press, "Chain
List". This just keeps you from naming a chain the same
name as an earlier file.
Press Escape and then get back to the same place. This is
slightly different on different models. Usually you just press
Utility again.
Press "Chain Edit". This brings up a list of the
MIDI files in that folder.
Use your "Value +/-" keys to highlight the song
you wish to play first in the chain. Then press F10 "Select"
to choose the first song in the chain. A numeral 1 will appear
beside the song.
Go to the next song you wish to have in the chain and repeat
the process. The number 2 will appear beside it.
Notice that your songs do not have to be in the order that
they appear in the file list. This is a definite advantage.
After choosing all the songs you want in this chain press
"Save Chain". You will then be prompted to name
the chain.
Just a hint. Name it something that will put it at the beginning
of your files or the end of your files. Chain names can get
hard to find when mixed with all the other file names. So
something like "001" or "ZZR&R" will
make it easier to find.
A couple of quick notes.
Your chains can be very long or very short.
You cannot get to a song in the middle of the chain without
going through all the songs.
You can use the same song in many different chains.
The chain must reside in the same folder as the songs.
If you press "Stop" you must reload the chain to
continue.
If you press "Pause" you can resume from the exact
same spot.
To play the chain, exit the disk area and go to Song Play
and choose F5 Dir and choose the number for the chain.
Chains are useful tools and I hope you enjoy the use of them.
As you may know, I put out this newsletter free of charge
and I hope to continue to do so. However I am not independently
wealthy and I am forced to derive an income from somewhere.
I am a Ketron dealer and I hope to be able to sell to you,
my Ketron friends, the products and accessories that you need.
I can promise you that no one will beat my price and still
maintain the level of service and support that I try to give.
To this end you will be my sponsors in what I hope will be
a informative and fruitful endeavor for many years to come.
