Issue No. 25

Hello everyone and welcome to issue number 25 of Ketron News and Tips (KNAT).
This issue is targeted for July 1, 2003. I hope that everyone in the U.S. has a great July 4th weekend.
The great news this week is about BAND-IN-A-BOX. This is the world's finest computer software for accompaniment.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New BAND-IN-A-BOX dealer
BAND-IN-A-BOX which is the world's finest computer software for styles to create backing tracks has allowed Ketron U.S. to become a dealer!! This is very exciting news. Why? Because BIAB works so well with Ketron. My web site is devoted to Ketron and all the highest quality things I can find that work with Ketron products and this is definitely one of those.
The other software that is also from PG Music (the BIAB people) that works perfectly with Ketron products is Power Tracks Pro. This is a sequencing program and as such is perfect for tweaking your MIDI files. Even more BIAB is the perfect companion to Style Works 2000.
So much so that I am offering a software special.
I have several older, yet brand new and fully functional, BIAB versions that I will give FREE, while supplies last, to anyone purchasing any version of Style Works. Once supplies run out I will make a different offer. I do not believe that one can have too many styles.
If you order Style Works Universal, you will receive your choice of the latest BIAB or 50% off of the BIAB MegaPAK. Within the next couple of days this will appear on my Accessories page in my web site.
I will also be offering BIAB at a better discount on the "Secret" page, described above.
All supplies are in stock at the moment.
For my loyal customers who have already purchased Style Works, if you contact me by email regarding the offer I have a special for you as well.

Some common questions and answers
This issue I am going to try to tackle some of the common questions I get in my mail bag.
Question:
I recently came across a Ketron X1 Oriental version, I'd like to know if the keyboard could be changed into the regular version.
Answer:
The X1 Oriental is the original X1 PLUS the oriental sounds and styles added on, so YES, it can be used as the original X1 (with the Standard sounds and styles). Answer by AJ
Question:
Can you use other brands of MIDI pedalboards with the Ketron products.
Answer:
Yes if it sends MIDI note information. The K8 defaults to channel two and the Ketron products are set to receive the info on that channel so you may have to tweak your channels to get it to work and get the best out of it, but it can be done.
Question:
Can you tell me how to initialize the M60?
Answer:
With the unit turned off, hold down F1 and F2 together while turning on the machine. Then F3 confirms the reset. This is a hard reset and you will lose all the information in Flash ram such as patterns and registrations and programs. By the way this is the same for all MS series instruments.
Question:
Is there any way I can turn the velocity feature 'off' so that any velocity will have the same volume when the key is played?
Answer:
Absolutely. Go to the section that says "Vel. Curve". In most of the Ketron products this is found in the F3 (Utility) section. On the newer instruments it would be under "Play Control" probably on page 2. You have a variety of curves ranging from Soft1 to Fixed127. Soft1 gives you the greatest variety and you get progressively less dynamic range as you go to Fixed127 where you get no dynamic range at all. Each key is played "full on" so to speak. This is a perfect setting for emulating an instrument where the keys have no dynamic range such as a B3 Hammond organ or a harpsichord.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a quantity of the Dan O'Neil Video tape on the uses of the X1. I will be offering these for sale on my web site soon. These are not slick production, but have a lot of useful information, especially for those that have difficulty with manuals.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you may know, I put out this newsletter free of charge and I hope to continue to do so. However I am not independently wealthy and I am forced to derive an income from somewhere. I am a Ketron dealer and I hope to be able to sell to you, my Ketron friends, the products and accessories that you need. I can promise you that no one will beat my price and still maintain the level of service and support that I try to give. To this end you will be my sponsors in what I hope will be a informative and fruitful endeavor for many years to come.
