K.N.A.TIssue No. 20 Hello everyone and welcome to issue number 20 of Ketron News
and Tips (KNAT). I had a great question asked me and I decided to write a small tip guide or you can call it a mini manual for the use of the file transfer tool. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am re-including this just for anyone who may have missed it last week. More about the 4.0 release(with corrections) Ok, the first thing that I have got to say is that while my upgrade is working perfectly, several of you are having some problems. First and foremost, you must know for sure that you got an uncorrupted download. When computers send packets of information across the internet, any kind of digital "noise" or brief interruption or in many, many cases spyware and virus condition can cause portions of the information to be lost or distorted. If you are on dial-up instead of high speed internet access, this causes even more problems. Of course, when I say working perfectly, I am referring to a clean download and install and not the "bugs" that Ketron will surely have worked out shortly. Overall I am extremely happy and will keep 4.0 on my SD1 and look forward to 4.1. Now for those of you who want to revert to the 3.0 OS here are the direction that AJ posted in the Solton Club emails. Here is his email in its entirety. Please note that below is the REVISED solution from AJ and
supercedes the posting in the last issue. , Over all, I am glad that most of you are enjoying OS4.0 for the SD1 from Ketron. There have been some, however that have wanted to use the new OS with eg. the older sound settings. This capability will soon be available on our website. Currently, these are your 2 options: * Use 4.0 with the new 4.0 sounds. If you have at any point installed 4.0 and want to re-install 3.0c or later, please do not forget to also install the following files from your HD FOLDER-90 Reload:- * -Firm0000.snd * -FLASH086.pcm (All of these from the folder should be loaded). (Note however that you will still have the 'noise' in the Electric Pianos and Organ sounds). Due to FLASH format size, the FLASH memory is always re-formatted when you change from 4.0 to any other OS or from any other OS to 4.0. In each case, you will have to reload the FLASH styles (if older than 4.0, use the styles in the Folder 90 -Reload, else use the newly created folder STANDARD). The styles must match the OS! Sorry for any confusion previous post might have caused. Thanks, AJ Prince Ajua Alemanji (AJ) Computer Engineer (Annalyses & Design) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Ketron File Transfer Utility. To use this utility you must have the cable. Then you must download the software from: =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= KETRONFT is a utility program that allows you to transfer and manage files to/from the serial port of the Personal Computer. To use this software you need the special cable 9AC123 to
connect the keyboard to the Personal Computer . =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ONCE YOU'VE GOT IT INSTALLED Set your keyboard to transmit and receive the information. Go to F6 MIDI and then F10 Utility an then F6 computer. Make sure it says PC or MAC if you are using a Mac computer. (If you use a Mac you are on your own; I don't own one to test with.) Let's look at the interface.
Now notice that the top pair of windows is information regarding
your keyboard. Connect/Disconnect is only one button. If your keyboard and computer are not in the Active mode, you will see Connect. When in the active mode, the button changes to Disconnect. The lower set of windows shows your computer files and folders. UpLoad and DownLoad. After you hit the "Connect" button your Ketron will show "CONNECT TO PC" in the window. This means you are ready for file transfer. Now let's move some files to the Ketron from your computer. Now in the lower set of windows go to the drive that contains
the files you wish to upload to your Ketron. If you wish to copy files from your Ketron to your computer it is very simple. In the "Computer" window highlight the folder you wish to copy the files to. If you don't have a folder you can create one using the MkDir button to the right of the computer section. With that folder highlighted in the computer section, go back to the Keyboard section and find the folder that contains the files you want to copy to your computer. Then as you did before highlight the files you wish to copy and click the Download button. Wait until the copying is complete and then either copy more files or click the "Disconnect" button. The screen on your Ketron will return to normal and you are done. The buttons "Copy", "Move", "Rename"
and "Delete" are pretty self explanatory. You can actually upload or download any type of file that is recognized. So for our purposes you can load new styles, patterns, Midi files, sounds, text and much more. Have fun. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
